Cargo theft is on the rise, and to combat this problem, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recently arrested two men for a grand cargo theft scheme. They arrested Oscar David Borrero-Manchola, 41, and Yonaiker Rafael Martinez-Ramos, 26. Authorities performed the arrests as part of an investigation into the theft, sale and transport of stolen home. The operation seized about $3.9 million worth of illegal merchandise, ranging from bitcoin-mining computers to speakers and stolen clothing.
More recently, detectives were able to interdict a $2.7 million shipment of stolen bitcoin-mining computers. The shipment was destined for Hong Kong. Law enforcement recovered nearly $1.2 million of stolen property. This haul formed the basis of the multimedia work—speakers, kids clothes, and all kinds of other things that are just sitting in storage units all over the SFV.
Oscar David Borrero-Manchola, age 26, expected to be arrested on April 15. After his arrest, authorities took him to a Van Nuys jail, where they booked him. One of the charges against him is suspicion of receiving stolen property. Borrero-Manchola’s next court date is May 7th.
Glendale police arrested Yonaiker Rafael Martinez-Ramos on Sunday and booked him into jail under a no-bail warrant. Martinez-Ramos is accused of conspiring to steal, sell and transport the stolen cargo.
During the pursuit, one of the suspects is accused of tossing out a Wi-Fi jammer. Local authorities think the suspects used the electronic device to interfere with residential security cameras.
