The proposal, submitted by Eric Su of LN8 Energy of Dallas, TX in November 2024, has met with significant opposition from local citizens.
The location of the proposed facility, 1199 Cason Road in the Cason/Rehobeth Community. It proposes constructing a storage facility to house servers and a chiller, the latter which will be cooled with groundwater pulled from a well on the property. In reality, the $50 million project has stirred controversial and fear-filled sentiment among community members.
Community opposition to the Bitcoin mining operation is based on many factors. People are worried with the chosen location of the site and the noise environmental component. Moreover, the operation’s massive energy consumption would put undue pressure on the local grid, stoking the main camp’s arguments. Residents raised concerns over possible health impacts, water contamination, and creation of hazardous waste.
Additional resistance comes out of concern that the new Bitcoin mining operation will bring controversial declining property values to the region. The commissioners would then have to decide again, this time based only on the facts and legal arguments.
