Robinhood has made staking for Ethereum and Solana available to all U.S. customers. Now, these same users can actually earn rewards by helping to secure these distributed networks. The European debut of Robinhood, of all contenders, has made a splash. This comes as clearer regulatory guidelines are providing new opportunities for crypto services. As with any platform rollout, there are other limitations and fees that come with it, which users should keep in mind.
Robinhood’s staking services allow customers to earn rewards by participating in networks and using their crypto assets to help secure the networks. Rewards are allocated according to each network’s protocol rate. On top of that, the firm provides staking services for Ethereum (ETH/USD) and Solana (SOL/USD).
Starting October 1, Robinhood will start taxing you for staking rewards at a whopping 25% rate. This staking option is currently not available to residents in California, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin.
Ethereum staking is yielding as much as 50% to 100% of the officially published protocol rate. Robinhood batches user funds at a minimum of 32 ETH to meet the validator threshold required for Ethereum staking. This approach introduces unpredictability into the procedure.
As a sign of the times though, Robinhood’s staking services just went live in the EU. The region’s more defined rules thanks to MiCA (Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation) have made the market much friendlier to crypto offerings. The EU’s regulatory frameworks laid out more clear guidelines for these kinds of staking services, easing the path for Robinhood’s entry into the region. This move gave Robinhood a ready-made foothold in the EU region, well before its U.S. rollout.
